6 Run 2, Week 10 (BOHR): Only One More Run Left!


Ran 40:30 minutes tonight at 5 pm, in lovely 48 degree weather. And no, I'm actually not being sarcastic in the least. Today's weather was truly a gift from nature: It felt like spring compared to the weather we've been having lately!

I only dressed in two layers on top (i.e., a long-sleeved v-neck & a mock-neck pullover) & wore long running pants & a light-weight poly headband (to cover my ears), but didn't wear my usual (light-weight polypropylene) gloves. At first, my hands were a tad bit cold, especially during the first lap & a half around the lake, but then they warmed up & were just fine.

Normally, the conventional running wisdom is for people to dress 20 degrees cooler than the outdoor temperature, but as Erik likes to say, "in my case, make that only 10 degrees cooler!" ;-) Like the typical woman, I'm always cold, & my limbs/appendages are usually the coldest parts!

It took me 35:05 minutes to finish 4 laps. I was at the half-way point around the lake in the next 5 minutes & 45 seconds (for a total of 40:30 minutes), and was able to reach the lap marker in the next five minutes, during my cool-down walk.

I took 2 Ibuprofen again to ward off inflammation issues; the right knee was a tad bit sore before my run, but then I didn't feel any pain or discomfort during or after the run.

While I truly enjoy running, I sometimes think that my knees take their cue from something psychosomatic that exists deep inside of me. They seem to act up at the mere thought of me running! ;-) It's like they just know that I'm going out for a run in the next few minutes & decide to play games with my mind & get some sort of demented glee from wreaking havoc on my running schedule. If my knees could talk, they'd be fresh little buggers with major attitude. It's almost like they have a personality all their own. Granted, it'd be à la Oscar the Grouch!

Well, I'm just going to be thankful that the knees are holding up tonight. I can't believe there's only one more run left to the BOHR program! Wow! And YEA!

wow, congratulations on your progress!

There definately is something to the "psychosomatic" nature of the mind-body running connection...

ive found that the longer i run the more i begin to think of anti-inflammatories, like ibuprofen, as a major food group ;)

You are doing great. I have recently started running, and it is really good to see that other people have started out and succeeded. I have a long way to go still, but I have seen small improvements. Well done, and keep running!

Thanks, Jon, for your supportive comments! Congratulations on starting your running program! While I'm actually a long-time runner (been running since I've been 5 or 5 years old!), I'd recently returned to running after a long hiatus. So it took me about 4-5 months to get back to a decent level of fitness. So, I encourage you to take heart & stick with it! The small improvements add up over time to really big improvements, so the end-goals & the journey itself are both very worthwhile & very rewarding. I know I look forward to seeing both the small steps of daily progress & the long-range accomplishments. I wish you lots of success in your training program!
